I remember riding up my long driveway through the woods to get to my Dad’s house when I was younger. If it was a hot and humid summer day we would always be greeted with horseflies when we left the jeep. I felt like that this morning when I went to a local church in the area. I arrived ten minutes before service and as soon as I walked in everyone was swarming around me because I’ve never been there before. The first few I didn’t mind but after like 4 or 5 of them I started counting how many times this happened in 10 minutes. I counted 24 times that someone would ask me if I needed help with something, or trying to get me to go to one of their classes, or telling me that the NIV translation does not follow God’s teachings.
It took every bit to stop myself from running right back out the front door screaming. It may have been the Aspergers in me but honestly it annoyed me to no end and I was still quite annoyed about it during worship. I understand it was meant as a nice thing to do to try and help someone visiting the church – but this was overkill. I would like to know though, would you be annoyed by this or was it just one of my quirks?
